Overcoming Mental Obstacles

A few weeks ago I spoke about my plans to tackle Ireland's highest mountain, Carrauntoohil. I'm delighted to report that the climb was a success. My good friend and I managed to reach the summit despite the testing conditions and the mental obstacles that we placed before ourselves. The visibility was so bad as we made our way towards the famous "devil's ladder" section that we couldn't see the mountain we intended to climb!

Get Fit, Eat Clean, Detox Your Mind

Halloween is upon us this weekend but even before the costumes and pumpkins disappear from the shelves we'll be bombarded with advertising for a new season and talk of the parties and nights out that the festive season has in store. November 1st isn't just the start of the Christmas countdown this year though. It's also the first day of the 30 Day Healthy Living Challenge!

Benefits of Online Health and Wellness Programs

One of the great advantages of the digital age is the access you can get to people and resources all around the globe. The World Wide Web has changed our lives forever and opened up so many new possibilities in how we work and communicate. It really is an incredibly exciting time as all of these options are opening up to us.  You can now enlist the services of people or programs in different countries around the world to do a job or provide a service for you. Online health and wellness programs are a perfect example of this; I can sign up for a clean eating meal plan offered by a nutritionist in Melbourne; I can get workout routines, a fitness program and an exercise schedule from a personal trainer in New York. I can sign up to a 30 day detox challenge organised by a health coach in London. The possibilities are endless.

Cycle to Howth

Waking up early on Sunday morning in Dublin, the sun was shining and there was not a single cloud in the sky. Some weekend exercise was called for. I decided in a split second to bring my bike out of semi retirement (a self imposed retirement following my epic cycle around Ireland) and to head for Howth. What an excellent decision it was.

30 Day Challenge – The Result

My 30 day challenge has come to an end.  For the month of July I set myself goals in the areas of exercisenutrition and mental health. The aim was to have the healthiest 30 days that I’d ever spent on the planet! What a great month it was. I didn’t hit all of my goals but I made a lot of improvements and learned so much from my efforts. I can tell you that even now, after completing the challenge, I still feel energised, invigorated and motivated in so many ways. I feel healthy, fit and happy not to mention the sense of achievement I feel for sticking with the challenge for the entire month.

30 Day Challenge – Part 2 –Nutrition

I’ve documented the exercise plan for my challenge. I’m happy with the mix of resistance training and cardio. Exercise is critical to my success in this challenge however nutrition will play an equally important role. My old gym had a sign on the wall saying ‘You can’t out-exercise a bad diet’ and I think that sums up the relationship perfectly.

30 Day Challenge – Part 1 –Exercise

In my last video log I introduced my 30 day challenge. It’s time to put a bit of meat on the bones of that challenge in this blog. I’m a big believer in setting goals and challenges for yourself, in every aspect of life. I’m concentrating on a health challenge. My aim is to be as healthy as I can be for 30 days. You can look on this as a detox, as preparation for a sporting event like a race or a big match, or simply a way of adopting a healthier lifestyle. Whatever your own personal goals, I know you will gain a lot from following my lead.

30 Day Challenge – The Idea

I’m a big believer in setting yourself a fitness challenge in order to keep you motivated to exercise. It’s important to have health and fitness goals to work towards. I completed my epic cycle around Ireland 4 weeks ago and I’ve been in limbo exercise wise since then as I’ve had no specific target to aim for.
