Workplace Wellness Ireland – Our First Partner!

Workplace Wellness Ireland has come a long way in a relatively short period of time. Since our first event in September 2018, the membership has been growing and the demand for tickets for our events has been increasing significantly.

Dublin has been a great base for our meet ups thus far and will continue to host events on a regular basis. So many of our members are based outside of the capital though so it’s only fair that we bring some community gatherings to the regions in 2019.

Workplace Wellness Ireland – Training Programme

Through Workplace Wellness Ireland, I regularly promote the idea of long-term thinking when it comes to wellness in Irish businesses; it’s the main driver for the community. A long-term strategic wellness programme has the potential to shape behaviour change within an organisation; a one off initiative does not.

The long-term focus is also why I’m a big fan of the healthy workplace accreditations that have been launched in Ireland recently such as the KeepWell Mark from Ibec and Healthy Place to Work. The accreditations are fantastic for Irish companies that want to promote themselves as healthy places to work, something that is becoming increasingly important for attracting and retaining talent.

Ireland’s National Workplace Wellbeing Day 2019

Ireland’s Workplace Wellbeing Day for 2019 is fast approaching. April 12th is the date for your diary this year. Workplace Wellbeing Day is now in its fifth year and has been growing in strength and significance every year. It’s a really positive day in the Irish business calendar and something to really be proud of. Do you know there’s no other country in Europe that has a National Workplace Wellbeing Day? There may not even be another national Workplace Wellbeing Day anywhere on the planet?! Let me know if you’ve heard otherwise!

Who to Watch in Workplace Wellness in Ireland in 2019

There’s been some really positive progress in the health promotion landscape in Irish workplaces in recent years. Companies are slowly beginning to move away from box ticking wellness initiatives and two healthy workplace accreditations have been launched (with a third on the way) that promote a longer-term approach to workplace health promotion. There’s still a considerable way to go if we want to catch up with our international counterparts, particularly in the US, but there’s no doubt we are on the right path.

I see 2019 as an important year for health promotion in Irish workplaces.  I’d love to see Ireland lead the way and develop a world class ecosystem for workplace health promotion and I don’t see why we can’t. I’m doing my bit with the Workplace Wellness Ireland community which is going from strength to strength with a very exciting schedule of events planned this year.

Why Ireland’s Business Leaders Should Follow Operation Transformation

It’s a new year and an opportunity for a new beginning. A fresh start. Lots of people have been setting goals and resolutions for the year and a great many of them will be health related. New year resolutions often face their stiffest test on the cold long January days when we’re back at work after the festive break. That’s why I always love to see the hugely underrated Operation Transformation programme back on RTE. There’s no other show that I know of that provides so much positivity and inspiration to those looking to make healthy lifestyle changes. The show is a brilliant motivator for people up and down the country looking to introduce (and stick with) healthy behaviour changes at the start of the year.

The Only Resolution You Need in 2019

As we enter a new year I see all the usual talk of new year goals and healthy resolutions. Having something to aim for is a good thing and I encourage everyone to take a little time to think about what they want to achieve in 2019. What I don’t like seeing is the inevitable updates three weeks in to the year where many resolutions are now on life support or have fallen by the wayside altogether. Perhaps it’s the case that the resolutions being set are too big a leap and are not realistic for the individual to maintain.
