Review: Workplace Wellness Ireland - November Event

The second Workplace Wellness Ireland meet up took place on November 13th at the Bank of Ireland, Grand Canal Square. Demand was high with all available tickets reserved within 48 hours of release! The atmosphere and energy in the room was fantastic. A huge thanks to everyone for giving up their time on a weekday evening to attend the event.

I kicked off proceedings by welcoming everyone and re-sharing the community values. A quick show of hands revealed there was a fairly even split of those in attendance for the first time and returning attendees.

Review of The First Workplace Wellness Ireland Meet Up

On Tuesday September 4th we held the inaugural meet up of the Workplace Wellness Ireland community at the Bank of Ireland in Grand Canal Square in Dublin. I was blown away by the attendance and by the positive feedback following the event. The atmosphere and energy in the room was something I had hoped for so it was extremely pleasing to see my expectations not only met but exceeded on the night. Thanks to everyone that came along and contributed to the positivity.

Slow Down to Speed Up

Most of us feel like we are at the mercy of our schedules, our bosses’ expectations AND our own.  We feel pressured to stay head’s down in our cubicles, in front of our computers all day.  Somehow meetings get placed on our schedule—last minute.  We deal with emergencies from clients, co-workers as well as from management.  Thus, we feel like we are putting out fires with no time to actually get proactive work done.  At the end of the day, we feel exhausted and stressed with all that is left on our plate.  So, we go back to our computers and work after the kids are in bed or lay awake worrying about all that needs to get done tomorrow.

30 Day Challenge – The Result

My 30 day challenge has come to an end.  For the month of July I set myself goals in the areas of exercisenutrition and mental health. The aim was to have the healthiest 30 days that I’d ever spent on the planet! What a great month it was. I didn’t hit all of my goals but I made a lot of improvements and learned so much from my efforts. I can tell you that even now, after completing the challenge, I still feel energised, invigorated and motivated in so many ways. I feel healthy, fit and happy not to mention the sense of achievement I feel for sticking with the challenge for the entire month.

30 Day Challenge – Part 3 – Healthy Mind

My 30 day challenge is well under way; I’ve already detailed my exercise plan and outlined my nutrition goals. I now want to focus on the final part of my challenge, and it’s an area that’s often overlooked as part of a traditional health challenge – a healthy mind.

I’m sure this particular part of the challenge will look different for each individual but everybody will get some ideas from what I’m planning. Here’s a look at a few areas I’ll be focusing on over the 30 days in an effort to get my mind to as healthy a place as possible.

Work-related stress: What employers can do about it

New statistics released by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) reveal the true extent - and the real cost - of the UK’s work-related stress problem, and they make for grim reading. The statistics look at the nature of self-reported work-related illnesses, showing that many industry sectors are effectively losing a million or more working days a year as a result of stress, depression or anxiety.

Cycling Around Ireland - Week 3

My incredible journey continues. I've now completed 18 days in the saddle and cycled over 1,000 kilometers since I left home. I could write pages and pages about the sights, sounds and people that I've seen and met on the trip so far. My work for the Guinness Quality Team in the evenings continues at pace in the coolest of local bars in the towns and villages where I stay. I could keep writing and I will write properly about the journey very soon but for now a video seems to say so much more. Here's my vlog from today, from Inishmore on the Aran Islands.

Cycling Around Ireland - Week 2

Week 2 wasn't quite as full on a week as my first week in the saddle as I took a break for a few days to attend a wedding (and to give my backside a rest), but I still managed to pedal through four days of towns, hills and scenery on the Ring of Kerry and the Wild Atlantic Way in the kingdom of county Kerry. I really do need to write about my experiences on this incredible trip and I will do that very soon, but for now you can enjoy the video highlights of my four days in the saddle on Week 2 of my cycle around Ireland.

Cycling Around Ireland - Week 1

I left Dublin on Thursday and since then I've managed to clock up 557 kilometres on the bike. The legs are stiff, the body is sore, my backside is killing me but I've never felt so alive. It has been an AMAZING week. I'll write about it properly very soon but for now I'll leave you with the videos of what has been an incredible seven days in the saddle travelling around the Irish coast.
